East Hemet: Driver Killed After Crashing Pickup Into Tree

EAST HEMET - On 01/11/2019 at about 10:00 p.m., Cal Fire responded to a traffic collision vs a tree on Hwy 74 near Blackburn Road, 1/4 mile west of Cranston Fire Station.

A red Ford Ranger pickup truck collided with a large tree, causing the tree to fall onto the eastbound lanes of Hwy 74.

The collision also caused the tree to fall onto the pickup, crushing it.

A Honda CRV traveling eastbound on Hwy 74 collided with the tree as it fell onto the roadway.

The driver of the pickup was declared deceased on scene by paramedics. The Honda CRV sustained moderate damage with one occupant transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The cause of the crash is under investigation and it's unknown at this time if intoxication was a factor in the crash.
