A female Royal Bengal tiger triggered a panic among locals after it strayed away from a forest and entered a village near Dhekiajuli town, located in Sonitpur district in the north east Indian state of Assam. The incident took place on Apr. 2.
Visuals showed villagers running after the tiger, who was seen roaming around a paddy field. Subsequent footage showed rescuers train their tranquiliser gun at the tiger in order to capture the animal. The rescuers were informed immediately after villagers saw the feline wandering near their houses.
The tiger was captured after a three-hour-long operation. Footage showed officials pulling the comatose animal, whose legs were tied with a rope to prevent the animal from running away.
The female tiger was finally put inside an iron cage and translocated to Assam State Zoo.
