Dramatic footage of a bison rescue has emerged from southern India. The incident took place on Apr 9 in near Kodaikanal city in Tamil Nadu’s Dindigul district.

Visuals showed a bison being pulled out of the mud. The animal had injured its left horn and was bleeding profusely.

An adult Indian bison can weight up to 1,500 kilograms (3306.934 pounds). The heavy animal was seen under a bridge. Officials used to harness and crane to lift the animal.

Once it was lifted, it was placed inside a truck.

Reports said the animal fell down from the bridge and injured its legs too. Forest officials were informed about its presence by locals, who saw the injured animal in pain.

The bison was taken to a veterinary clinic, where it will undergo treatment.

The rescue operation took over two hours to complete. The incident also caused retardation on traffic flow in the area.
