A heartwarming video has emerged of officials rescuing a stray dog whose head was stuck inside a pipe in western India.

The incident took place around 11 pm on Saturday (August 3) at Marol locality in Mumbai where a stray dog was spotted with a one-foot-long polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipe stuck on its head.

The canine's neck and snout were stuck inside the pipe from which it tried to free itself for nearly five hours.

The dog had recently given birth to five puppies and had taken shelter at an industrial complex nearby.

The dog was noticed by a local who went to feed it on Saturday evening.

He then contacted Awaaz-Voice of Stray Animals, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) based in Marol.

The rescuer's presence made the canine flee the area. It returned after two hours and the rescuers were finally able to get hold of the dog.

Officials tried to pull the pipe off but the dog started choking. They even tried to cut the pipe with scissors and a knife but it was too thick.

The rescue officials then tried to tear the pipe with a red cloth and rotated it to loosen the grip. Finally, they were able to pull the canine's head from the pipe.

After being freed, the dog rushed to feed her puppies it had kept in a room that had bamboos and cement bags strewn around.
