This is the adorable moment a baby elephant in Zimbabwe used a rock to scratch an awkward itch.

The clip, filmed on November 5, shows the funny behaviour of the calf enjoying a deep itch in Hwange National Park.

“Once done with its belly, the baby elephant had another itch to sort out, this time on his bum and upper parts of its back legs. To get rid of this itch, the baby elephant turned around and started wiggling his bum from side to side against the water trough, looking very awkward and funny at the same time,” the filmer told Newsflare.

“The baby elephant looked satisfied and ready to continue its journey. We left while everybody had a big smile on their faces. Definitely the highlight of the safari on this day.”

We were on safari in Hwange Nantional Park, Zimbabwe, when we came across a herd of elephants standing around a man-made water trough. Temperatures were soaring already and elephants came from far to this man-made watering point to quench their thirst. Besides drinking water, elephants also use this time to cool themselves down by splashing water over them as well as taking time to get rid of the itches on the hard to reach places on their bodies. During this time, elephants can display some fascinating and sometimes funny behavior. Among the elephants was a cute baby elephant that stole the show with its rather itchy behavior. The baby elephant realized the concrete water trough was just the right height for it to be used as a rubbing post. Tucked in under his mother’s trunk, the baby elephant stood with its belly over the side of the water trough and started moving forward and backwards, enjoying a deep soothing scratch of the belly. That looked so good and I could feel the little elephant’s pleasure and satisfaction. Once done with its belly, the baby elephant had another itch to sort out, this time on his bum and upper parts of its back legs. To get rid of this itch, the baby elephant turned around and started wiggling his bum from side to side against the water trough, looking very awkward and funny at the same time. This itch looked serious and the baby elephant continued to vigorously scratch its bum for a great sense of relieve. Once done, the baby elephant looked satisfied and ready to continue its journey. We left while everybody had a big smile on their faces. Definitely the highlight of the safari on this day.
