This is the dramatic moment a family were rescued from a car that was washed away by floods in the Indonesia today (June 12).

The vehicle was hit by a torrent of water from the river following heavy rainfall in South Sulawesi province.

Brave residents waded through the muddy current and carried the family, including children, to safety. Nobody was seriously hurt in the accident.

"A number of roads and houses were flooded," said a disaster response volunteer in Rumbia.

High rainfall battered the Rumbia district of Jeneponto where the accident happened throughout the previous evening and following day.

Apart from South Sulawesi, major flooding also occurred in Gorontalo Province. In Gorontalo, a bridge was destroyed by water. Officials were still investigating the damage across the region from the floods to establish if there were any casualties.
