Parasite Wasp Larva Emerges From Host Insect
This is the gruesome moment a huge parasite wasp larva emerges out of its cricket host.
The bulging larva was consumed by the cricket as an egg which hatched and turned into a bulging larva.
Insect enthusiast Eva Wiedeman saw the rare moment in her garden in Sullivan, Missouri when it came out after sucking all the nutrients from the cricket on September 9.
She said: “I was shocked when the larva came out. It looked healthy, but does weird movements so I had a closer look.”
Parasitic wasps vary in behaviour, but many lay their eggs in the early stages of their host as eggs or pupa.
