A group of women from a village in central India have barricaded their village and armed themselves with sticks to prevent outsiders from spreading COVID-19 to their community.

Footage captured in Chickhlar village in the state of Madhya Pradesh on April 26 showed the group surrounding various non-locals and turning them away.

India is in the grip of a very serious second wave of COVID-19 which has seen hospitals overwhelmed and severe shortages of oxygen.

The spike in infections has pushed the death toll beyond 200,000.

All the women of a village came together to safeguard their village because of the surging COVID cases in central India's Madhya Pradesh on April 26. The incident occurred at Chikhlar village in Betul.

Visuals from the incident feature women of the village with sticks in their hands. The women have collectively started this initiative to stop the spread of COVID-19 in the village. They have barricaded the entrance to the village and restricted the entry of outsiders. They guard the entrance with the sticks, as the men of the families are away working on the fields. Moreover, they halt those violating the rules and discipline them amid the street.

As the second wave of COVID has hit the country, the cases are rising every day. However, the women of the village took this initiative to safeguard their families by setting a curfew on the locals and ensuring that no one from outside the village enters their residential area.
