Volunteers helping with relief efforts for tropical storm In-fa were rescued after a road in the Philippines collapsed during the bad weather.

The group went to a remote village in the mountains to take food and other livelihood supplies to residents when the incident happened in Sitio Sayaban, Kidapawan City on July 16.

As the 12 volunteer workers descended Mount Apo – the highest mountain in the country – portions of the cliff gave in and blocked the trail.

To take the group out, rescuers had to bring excavators and clear the mountain road which lasted for at least four hours.

Emergency response centre officer Psalmer Bernalte said: ‘No individual was hurt due to the incident. Residents in landslide-moderate areas uphill remained safe and calm.’

Severe tropical storm In-fa, locally named Fabian, continues to move slowly across the country. It is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility Tuesday evening local time (July 20) before heading to Japan’s Miyako and Senkaku Islands on Wednesday evening (July 21).
