A herd of five elephants descended into a canal to quench their thirst and were not able to come out later in southern India's Karnataka on January 10.

The incident took place in the Nallooru Pala village, located in the Hunsur region of Mysore district.

Visuals feature the elephant herd struggling to climb out of the canal. The jumbos try to mount the elevated slope but slip backward owing to the water on it. However, determined, the pachyderms move back a few steps and continuously try to overcome the hurdle with double force but fail.

The elephants strayed out of Nagarahole National Tiger Reserve and were in the canal, when the villagers noticed them. Further, they tried to drive them back to the forest by making repeated sounds, clapping and shouting at them, but the pachyderms found it difficult.
