Magnitude 6.7 earthquake jolts coast off western Indonesia
A magnitude 6.7 quake jolted Indonesia’s western coast on Monday.
Video shows a chandelier swaying from the ceiling as the quake was felt in Bukitinggi City in West Sumatra.
The United States Geological Survey said the tremor struck at 4:06 am GMT at a depth of 21 kilometres. The agency placed its epicentre at 167 kilometres west of Pariaman City.
Authorities said there were no initial reports of damage, injuries or casualties.
Nias Search and Rescue office head Agus Wibisono said: ‘Based on the latest report, there is no damage and victims, but we continue monitoring. The jolt was strongly felt in the South Nias island.’
