A magnitude 5.8 earthquake shook a ceiling fan as it rattled homes in southwestern Turkey.

CCTV footage shows the fixture swinging when the tremors hit Mugla City in the early hours of June 3.

The United States Geological Survey said the quake struck five kilometres south of Icmeler at 23:17 UTC on Tuesday. It was 74 kilometres deep.

Authorities said a 14-year-old girl in Turkish port city Fethiye died after suffering an anxiety attack. At least 69 people were injured after jumping from windows or balconies to escape their homes.

No major infrastructural damage has been reported.

Turkey lies on top of major fault lines, making earthquakes frequent.
