A traffic policeman was dragged on the bonnet of a car after he tried to stop a man from driving since he wasn't wearing a seatbelt, in northern India's Rajasthan.

The incident took place at Pal Link Road, Suryanagri in Jodhpur city of the eponymous district, on June 19.

CCTV footage captures the chilling moment when the cop was getting dragged on the car's bonnet. He barely managed to hold on as the car continued moving despite the man being in a precarious position.

An onlooker on a bike was seen staring at the four-wheeler which continued to move with the man on top.

It was learnt that the vehicle was eventually stopped by a civilian, who put his bike in front of the car to eventually save the traffic cop.

Speaking to NewsLions, Jaikishan Soni, a policeman from the Devnagar police station, narrated the incident saying, "Traffic police was on routine duty when a white i10 car was passing by. The head constable stopped the car and pointed out to the driver stating that he wasn't wearing a seatbelt. But the driver surprisingly retorted back saying that it was a lane and it didn't require seatbelts."

An argument soon ensued between the two and the driver decided to speed away from the spot despite Gopal Bishnoi, another traffic policeman, standing in front of the car.

"He suddenly started his car and decided to speed away despite Gopal Bishnoi standing in front. He knocked him over and carried him on the bonnet of the vehicle," Soni added, stating that the cop tried to hold on hard to the car's wipers so that he wouldn't fall off and get crushed by the car.

He said that the vehicle drove for a distance of about 1 km until it reached Pal road when a civilian aided in stopping the car, "When he was caught, the man still argued asking Bishnoi why he jumped on the bonnet?." Soni stated, adding, "his wife was also misbehaving."

The duo were then taken to the Devnagar police station under the Jodhpur Commissionerate when an FIR was lodged under sections 332, 353, 307, 365, and 334 of the Indian Penal Code. "They have been presented in court and are now in judicial custody," Soni added.
