A hungry elephant broke into a kitchen looking for food on June 26 in southern India.

Remarkable security camera footage captured in the Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu shows the tusker smashing through part of a wall and reaching inside the home to snatch animal feed.

Homeowner Samuel Babu and his family were asleep when they heard a crash.

They rushed downstairs and saw the elephant making his getaway.

Babu had bought oil cakes for his cows that day and left them in the kitchen.

"Maybe hte elephant smelt the cake," said Babu.

"One side of the kitchen was totally damaged. I had to spent 9,500 rupees (120 USD) to repair the wall," he added.

The incident happened in Masanakudi village of Nilgiris district in Tamil Nadu . According to the house owner Samuel Babu Narendran while he and his family ( 6 members) were sleeping in their rooms they heard a loud sound from their kitchen , when they rushed their they found elephant moving out of their kitchen . Samuel tells , that evening only he bought oil cakes for his cows and kept it into his kitchen , maybe elephant smelt the cake , because the elephant took the cake out .
The elephant started coming to this area from last 4-5 years , in past there was several incident elephants sneaking into schools to get some food which were kept for children as a mid day meal , but this is the first such incident in our area when elephant break into the house tells Samuel
