An exasperated owner complained "I cut a door out for you" as her "trapped" cat struggled to climb over a baby gate completely ignoring the specially made hole right next to it.

Kayla Delcoure was watching TV at home in Atlanta, Georgia, on April 20 when she heard yowling coming from her cat Gizmo upstairs.

Hilarious footage shows the 29-year-old as she found her ginger moggy standing at the top of the stairs apparently "stuck" behind a safety gate.

Having been coaxed towards Kayla, Gizmo looked directly through a bespoke door his owner had made before trying and failing to climb over the barrier and then giving up.

Kayla said: “We have the gate to make sure our 3-year-old son doesn't use the stairs without supervision. Funny enough, it's not new at all.

“My 5-year-old son and I were downstairs watching TV when I heard Gizmo yowling at the top of the stairs.

“He was outside my office door yelling, because he wanted to go in my office to chew on my plants and antagonize my fish.

“When I went upstairs to tell him to hush, he walked back over to me like he was going to come downstairs to play.

“For some reason, he tried climbing over the gate instead of going through the hole that we specifically cut out for the cats to use. I had to climb up to show him how to use it.

“Gizmo does weird things very frequently. It's part of what makes him so hilarious to watch.

“I was amused, confused and impressed with his ability to still surprise me with his goofiness.”
