A brave antelope mum fought off two cheetahs at once to defend her new-born baby.

Matrishva Vyas was visiting the Maasai Mara National Park, Kenya, on November 1 when he spotted two cheetahs prowling across the savannah.

Dramatic footage shows the predator pair zone in on a topi stood on a termite mount with her one-week-old baby and charge full speed at their easy target.

Incredibly the mother chased off one cheetah before fighting off the second big cat who had taken down the baby and sent them fleeing.

Matrishva said: “I have been photographing wildlife in Africa and India for 18 years and I have never seen anything like this before. It was incredible.

“The cheetahs were moving in a particular direction and while looking at the direction of its movement we noticed the topi with its baby on a termite mound.

“Our guide Benson immediately drove towards the topi anticipating that cheetah duo may attack this ‘soft target’.

“The baby was only one week old. We could still see a thin umbilical cord hanging down.

“It was a brief encounter. The entire event unfolded in less than 30 seconds. Amazingly they both the topi and her baby successfully managed to escape.”
