This is the dramatic moment two teenagers were rescued from a raging river during severe floods in Indonesia.

Alfian Aldi Saputra, 15, and his friend Ikbal, 13, had gone fishing at the stream in Semarang Regency in Central Java when the weather suddenly turned stormy on November 28.

Ikbal was able to flee to the riverbank, but Alfian was left clinging for dear life on a rock as flash floods surged down the river.

Firefighters and Semarang police officers arrived at the scene after receiving a report at around 2 pm.

Footage shows a rescuer being lowered into the churning stream where Alfian, in a black shirt, was seen being battered by powerful currents. The lad was given a lifebuoy and pulled to safety on the edge of the river.

Senior Assistant Commissioner Achmad Oka Mahendra, Head of the Semarang Police, said: 'The incident occurred at around 2:00 pm. At that time the survivor was fishing with a friend.

'He couldn't move much when floodwater suddenly came from the upstream area of the river. He didn't expect flooding because the weather had been quite sunny. He couldn't cross because the water was flowing rapidly. His friend had already saved himself and he immediately called to report the situation.'

Both boys were taken to the RSUD dr. Gunawan Mangunkusumo hospital for treatment.

Ambarawa Police Chief Abdul Mufid said: 'Both their parents have come to the hospital to accompany them. We appeal to the residents of Semarang District, especially those fond of fishing, to pay attention to the weather always. To parents, please provide extra supervision to your children when they do outdoor activities.'
