Tired Christmas driver almost crashes several times on M6 Motorway whilst swerving in and out of lanes
These were the terrifying moments an allegedly 'tired' NHS worker was spotted swerving in and out of lanes of a British Motorway 'driving home from work'.
The driver was traveling Southbound on the M6 on Wednesday 27 December at around 10pm and had just passed Sandbach services in Cheshire when he was spotted by another driver with a dashcam.
The following driver, who did not want to be named, said: "I saw other people braking in the distance but wasn't sure what was happening until I got closer.
"There was a silver Peugeot 3008 in the middle lane, he looked drunk to be honest, he was swerving around and braking."
'I was so concerned... I called 999'
As the dashcam driver followed, he pulled back to a safe distance as he tried to warn other drivers of the danger ahead.
"I was so concerned about his driving I called 999 and asked for the police.
"He was almost crashing into people, braking heavily, he regularly went down to around 45mph on a clear motorway before accelerating to around 75mph and then back to about 60mph.
"I tried to keep a safe distance from him but it was hard with his erratic driving, I had to use my hazards sometimes as other drivers were coming up as he was swerving or slowing, he was a big danger to everyone and himself."
As the Peugeot driver continued towards Birmingham, he took the M5 off and then left at Junction 1, West Bromwich.
Dashcam driver, who lives in Birmingham continued to follow the driver in case he crashed.
"I could have stayed on the M6 but I can also get home going the way he went so stuck with him, if he crashed I'd have been able to call it in and supply evidence.
"He came off at West Bromwich and continued into Birmingham, once he was on normal roads, he was a tiny bit better at slow speeds, but still much to be desired.
"I once again called the police as he was now in the city where there were pedestrians, this time updating them until he arrived home."
The driver 'didn't smell drunk'
"When he pulled up, I got out of the car and questioned why he was all over the place, He said he was driving home after work and blamed it on his headlights, he was wearing an NHS lanyard.
"As he was talking to me and denying he was a problem, he didn't smell drunk, so I could only assume he was very tired.
"The police said they were going to pass a link to upload footage but I never received anything, I didn't see one police car on the 55 mile route, they do these Christmas drink drive campaigns but this guy was a real danger and could have killed others and himself."
