Rainfall induced several landslides in northern India's Jammu and Kashmir which caused the important Jammu-Srinagar National Highway to be blocked.

This incident happened on National Highway 44, at Kishtwari Pathar in Sherbibi area in Banihal in Ramban district of the state on March 31.

Visuals showed one of these landslides taking place. Big boulders rolled down the hilly area and crashed on the road. Gradually, there was a heap of stones below the hill on the road. There were a number of vehicles on this path but fortunately they were at a safe distance. A group of people had also gathered at the spot.

As per a report, these landslides were triggered by severe rainfall and it led to the blockage on the highway which was headed towards Srinagar. A landslide also took place in Kishtwari Pather near Nachalana in the Banihal area which led to a road near Mehar-Cafeteria Morh being blocked.

Following the landslides, the traffic department engaged in clearance work at the Kishtwari Pather and Mehar-Cafeteria Morh to restore traffic on this road which links the rest of India with Kashmir.
