This is the hilarious moment a huge wave wiped out a couple posing for pictures in Australia.

Jiraporn Boorawong, 23, and her boyfriend were walking along a rocky outcrop hoping to take the perfect Instagram photos when they were struck by a massive surge of water at the Tamarama Beach in Sydney.

Footage shows the pair standing on the slippy surface near the shore just as a swell swept in and nearly knocked them off their feet.

Jiraporn threw her hands out to her sides to balance herself. However, before she could regain her bearings, another much larger wave crashed into them in a violent, foamy splash.

With no time to brace for the impact, the couple were sent tumbling into the surf, much to the amusement of their friends.

When the water receded, Jiraporn was seen resurfacing with her long hair gracelessly plastered over her face while her boyfriend lamented his drenched phone.

Despite the unexpected dousing, the couple were unharmed and later joined in the laughter following the photo fail on May 23.

She said: 'No one was hurt. My friends stood there and laughed at us. The wave just came up on us while we weren't expecting it.'
