This brave wildebeest took on two hyenas as it attempted to defend its territory in Kruger National Park.

The filmer told Newsflare: "The blue wildebeest is one of the most common wildlife species in the African wild. Blue wildebeest are not known to be the most clever or attractive animals, but they sure can be brave animals when need be.

"During a safari in the Kruger National Park, we came across a lone wildebeest bull on an open patch on the savannah plains. Wildebeest males claim these open areas as their territories, in which they will remain and defend. Holding onto such a territory which is open, has lots of food and is near water, is crucial for the male to attract a herd of females.

"Once the females have moved in, the wildebeest male will do all in his power to keep them there for as long as possible. While the wildebeest was standing around marking his territory, I noticed two hyenas casually strolling in the direction of the wildebeest male. Hyenas are very curious and opportunistic predators and anything standing out or alone becomes a potential target.

"The lone wildebeest bull quickly spotted them and we were all wondering how this encounter was going to play out. While there was not a herd of females present to defend, the wildebeest knew it was important to keep his territory safe and clean from any dangers.

"The brave wildebeest bull didn’t look scared once, and he faced the oncoming hyenas while slowly walking towards them. I’m sure the hyenas didn’t expect the brave attitude coming from the wildebeest as it just kept walking towards them.

"It was so funny to see how the two fierce predators became the scared ones. The hyenas quickly decided that there was no easy prey here and turned around and started running away.

"The wildebeest had the upper hand and ran after the hyenas, chasing them out of his territory as far as he could. It was incredible to see an animal, who normally becomes prey so easily, turning the tables on this occasion, sending two dangerous predators on their merry way."
