Taal Volcano emitted a giant plume of smoke as it remained at an alert level in the Philippines.

Footage shows the active stratovolcano and the white cloud of smoke and gas hovering above its crater in Batangas on August 26.

The Philippine Volcanology and Seismology said the plume reached a height of 4,921ft (1,500 meters) and observed an upwelling of hot volcanic fluids in the main crater.

It said in an update: ‘Possible hazards that can occur include steam-driven or phreatic or gas-driven explosions, volcanic earthquakes, and minor ashfalls.'

Last week, the local government suspended classes in the province including the capital Manila as Taal continues to release volcanic smog.
