The worst major flash flood hit Indonesia, 16 people died, 3 people were missing, 9 people were injured, and 60 families were evacuated.


The flash flood that hit Rua Village, Ternate City, North Maluku province, Indonesia on Sunday 25 August 2024, brought soil, mud mixed with sand and stone from the mountain top area around residential areas, killing 16 people, with three victims still being searched for.

Until now, 26 August 2024, the Joint SAR Team is facing big challenges in evacuation efforts in locations filled with large rocks and mud material.

Apart from heavy equipment, they also use sniffer dogs belonging to the North Maluku Regional Police.

The three victims who are still being searched for as of Monday 26 August 2024 are Awana Alimudin (64 years), Minanti Musa (39 years), and Ajana Roman (5 years).

The Coordinator of the Emergency Response Post, namely the Regional Secretary (Sekda) of Ternate City, Rizal Marsaoly, stated that data regarding the 16 dead victims who had been found had been reported to the emergency response post.

According to reports received by the complaints post, there are still three victims who have not been found.

Meanwhile, nine people were injured: three people were treated outpatient, four people were treated at the Chasan Boesoirie Regional Hospital, and one person was treated at the Army Hospital (RST).

Rizal Marsaoly, revealed that at least 60 families had been evacuated from the location of the flash flood disaster in Rua Village. They, said Rizal, were residents directly affected by the flash flood disaster on Sunday 25 August 2024.
