Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki erupted violently in Indonesia, volcanic ash height 8 kilometers, 1 resident became a victim of burns.

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia erupted violently on Thursday, March 20, 2025 at 22.56 WITA (local time) and erupted again on Friday, March 21, 2025 at 00.10 WITA (local time).

The status of the mountain was also raised from Alert (Level III) to Warning (Level IV).

In the eruption that occurred on Thursday night, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki spewed volcanic ash as high as 8 kilometers.

While on Friday morning it spewed volcanic ash with a column height of ash reaching 2.5 kilometers above the peak.

"There was an eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki, Thursday night with an observed ash column height of ± 8,000 meters above the peak (± 9,584 m above sea level)," said Emanuel Rodimus Bere, Lewotobi Volcano Monitoring Post Officer.

As a result of the incident, Hendrikus Saran Kwuta (45 years old), a resident of Nurabelen Village, Ilebura District, East Flores Regency, NTT, suffered burns due to being hit by ash from the hot cloud of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.

Head of the East Flores Communication and Informatics Agency (Kominfo), Heronimus Lamawuran, said that it is strongly suspected that when the eruption occurred, the victim was staying in the garden.

"It is possible that the victim was in the garden at that time so he suffered burns from being hit by ash from the hot cloud," said Heronimus when contacted on Friday, March 21, 2025.

Heronimus said that the victim had been evacuated to the Lewolaga Health Center.

"Currently the victim is undergoing medical treatment at the Lewolaga Community Health Center," he said.

He appealed to the community around the slopes of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki to remain vigilant following the increase in the status of the mountain from level III alert to level IV alert.
