House washed away by river amid heavy rain in northern Thailand
Aerial footage shows a house being washed away by a swollen river following heavy rain in northern Thailand.
The property was dragged into the water following a landslip on the banks of the Yom River in Phrae province on August 29.
Village leaders and rescuers waited at a nearby bridge, 18.6 miles (30 kilometres) from the scene, to intercept the house.
They discovered the wooden house deep in the water and attempted to pull it back to shore, but were unsuccessful.
The house eventually struck a bridge pillar, causing it to break into pieces and continue drifting along the river.
Devastated owner Buapoi Dokmai, 51, said she was staying at another house with her husband and daughter. When the water level decreased, they returned to clean their house.
On the night before, she said her husband was sleeping in the house when he heard a loud noise around 5am, just before the house collapsed.
He jumped out of the house from a height of 6.6ft (two metres).
In under a minute, the entire house broke apart and was swept into the Yom River, and they were unable to remove any items in time. Their neighbours followed the house in a boat and contacted the authorities for assistance.
Officials said 22 residents have been killed and 19 locals injured in flash floods and landslides caused by heavy monsoon rains across the country.
The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation confirmed that around 30,000 households have been affected in 13 provinces across the north and south over the past 10 days.
