Locals fight off wild jackal that attacked them on roadside
This is the terrifying moment a jackal attacked two locals on a roadside in India.
Footage shows the pair sitting along the road in a residential area in Sehore, Madhya Pradesh, when the animal viciously confronted them on September 9.
In the CCTV video, one of the men is seen trying to repel the jackal while the other attempts to flee in the Rehti Tehsil neighbourhood of Sagoniya Panchayat.
The wild dog briefly captured one of the men, but he managed to fend it off. He then resorted to hurling stones at the jackal to scare it out, eventually grabbing the animal and tossing it around 15 feet away.
The injured men, identified as Shyam Yadav and Narmada Prasad, were promptly taken to Narmadapuram District Hospital for treatment.
Local authorities alerted the forest department and advised residents to avoid venturing alone.
Village Panchayat Assistant Secretary Ramkrishna Uike said: 'We have asked the villagers to stay away from jackals and travel in groups. The forest department has been notified, and Ranger Harish Maheshwari visited the injured and ensured compensation.'
Jackals are medium-sized wild canines that are often found in parts of India. They are known for their scavenging behaviour and can sometimes become aggressive when threatened or cornered.
This incident highlights growing concerns about wild animal attacks in the area following recent wolf attacks in Uttar Pradesh.
Earlier this week, a fifth wolf from a pack believed to have killed eight people, including seven children, was captured on Tuesday. Authorities are still searching for the sixth and final member of the wolf pack that terrorised 50 villages in the Bahraich district.
