This is the heartwarming moment a stray dog with its head stuck in a tin container for 10 days was finally rescued in Thailand.

The starving male mutt had been unable to eat for more than a week after sticking its head inside the container while looking for food.

Worried residents called local animal rescuers when they saw the two-year-old pooch wandering the neighbourhood in Loei province on December 26.

Footage shows the rescue team trying to catch the canine as it walked into the woods. It later stopped to rest at a nearby house, where the officers finally managed to grab it.

They used cutters to widen the hole in the tin container as the docile dog obediently stayed still.

Resident Tasanee Sonsuphap, 50, said she first saw the stray roaming around on December 21.

She said: 'I tried to help but the dog ran away. I asked the village council leader, who is a rescue worker, to help catch it.

'They found it this morning but they only caught it in the afternoon. I felt sorry for the dog because it hadn't eaten in days. I thank the rescue workers and villagers who came to help save the dog.'
