Indonesia's Mother Mountain erupted violently, a column of volcanic ash reaching 5 kilometers above sea level
Mount Ibu in West Halmahera Regency, North Maluku province, Indonesia erupted violently on January 11 2025 at 19:35 Eastern Indonesia Time.
with the height of the ash column observed to be approximately 5,325 meters or five kilometers above sea level.
The ash column was observed to be gray in color with thick intensity leaning towards the west.
This eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 3 minutes 5 seconds.
Ejection of incandescent lava was observed 2 kilometers from the center of the eruption.
Currently Mount Ibu is at Level III alert status, with recommendations from the community around Mount Ibu and tourist visitors not to carry out activities within a 4 kilometer radius and a sectoral expansion of 5.5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.
People who do activities outside the home are advised to use nose, mouth (mask) and eye protection (goggles).
