This is the moment a magnitude 4.9 quake struck southern Philippines.

CCTV footage shows the tremor rocking security cameras in Lanao del Sur province on the southern island of Mindanao, early morning on March 8.

Philippine seismological agency PHIVOLCS said the earthquake struck at a depth of four kilometres near the town of Wao, at 12:53 am local time.

The quake registered a 'very strong' Intensity VI on the PHIVOLCS Earthquake Intensity Scale as residents in neighbouring towns also reported powerful shaking.

PHIVOLCS said damage and aftershocks were expected.

The Philippines is an archipelago of more than 7,000 islands inside the Pacific 'Ring of Fire' where the majority of Earth's volcano eruptions and earthquakes happen.
