Animal rescuers smashed a concrete wall to save a stray dog that was trapped in a narrow gap.

Volunteers arrived as villagers heard the female pooch crying in Phayao province in northern Thailand on March 28.

Video shows the rescue team hammering the concrete fence, with the hapless stray wedged against the wall of the home.

The officers reached down and extracted the animal from the tight space. The dog was later seen wagging its tail gratefully as it appeared to thank its rescuers.

An onlooker said: 'The dog was so happy to be free. When it was released, it ran straight over to the rescuers to greet them.'
