THIS was the crazy moment pilots struggled to control a passenger plane as it came into land at Birmingham Airport during strong crosswinds.

The blue and white Blue Islands propeller passenger plane from Jersey was buffeted by the 50mph winds and nosedived at the last moment towards the runway before the skilled pilots regained control and brought the plane down to a safe landing on Wednesday 16 April.

Other flights also struggled in the extreme weather conditions, a white and yellow Vueling passenger jet from Barcelona landed on one wheel before bouncing to the other and a Ryanair flight also from Barcelona was pushed way off the centreline, before the pilots squared it up moments before touchdown.

An aerLingus flight from Belfast had to approach sideways on, or crabbing into the wind as the powerful gusts meant the plane battled against crosswinds to land in the middle of the runway.

Strong winds and heavy rain have hit many parts of the United Kingdom on Wednesday as stormy weather causes disruption on the run up the the Easter Bank Holiday.
