Heavily armed police swarm Birmingham estate after 9-year-old child run over

Heavily armed West Midlands Police officers swarmed a home on Caldwell Road in Birmingham after a 9-year-old child was run over.

This resulted in a disturbance where a 20-year-old man was also injured, both were taken to hospital on Thursday 1st May evening.

A blue Seat Leon could be seen with a smashed windscreen and a damaged bonnet.

West Midlands Police released this statement: 'We were called to Caldwell Road at around 7.05pm last night (Thursday) to reports that a child had been hit by a car and a disorder was taking place.

'A 9-year-old child was taken to hospital to be checked over.

'A 20-year-old man was also taken to hospital to be checked over after being assaulted during the disorder.

'Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to get in touch via Live Chat on our website or by calling 101 quoting log 4905 of 2 May.'

West Midlands Ambulance Service gave sepcialist trauma care to the girl at the scene before being taken by ambulance to Birmingham Children's Hospital.

A spokesman said: 'We were called to reports of a collision between a car and pedestrian near to the junction of Denville Crescent and Caldwell Road at 7.05pm.

'Two ambulances, a paramedic officer, a MERIT trauma doctor with a critical care paramedic and a Critical Care Car attended the scene.

'On arrival we discovered one patient, a girl, who was the pedestrian.

'She received specialist trauma care at the scene before being taken to Birmingham Children’s Hospital.'
