Man killed after driver loses control of car, ploughing into wall on Wolverhampton dual carriageway

West Midlands Police are investigating after a 41-year-old man died when the car he was driving lost control round a dual carriageway bend, ploughing into a wall near Wolverhampton.

The road traffic collision happened on the 40mph Westbound A449 Penn Road near its junction with Hollybush Lane just after 5.20pm on Saturday (March 1).

Emergency services rushed to the scene after members of the public frantically called 999 to report the crash.

The West Midlands Fire Service said crews from Wolverhampton and Tettenhall stations attended the scene along with ambulance doctors and paramedics, and police.

As they arrived they found that a car had collided with a brick wall near a footpath.

Despite the best efforts of the crews the man died at the scene.

Later in the evening specialist collision investigation officers gathered evidence and recorded the scene as a Private Ambulance arrived to recover the victim.

West Midlands Police said in a statement: ‘A man has died after a car hit a wall in Wolverhampton yesterday (1 March).

‘Officers were called to Penn Road at 5.22pm.

‘The driver of the black Ford Focus, a man aged 41, was pronounced dead at the scene.

‘We are supporting his family at this tragic time.

‘Our investigation is continuing and anyone with information or dashcam footage has been urged to get in touch via 101 or Live Chat on our website, quoting log 3551 of 1 March.’
