Taxi driver dies after suspected medical episode, as car crashes into sign and roundabout in Solihull
West Midlands Police and specialist Collision Investigation Officers at the scene of a one vehicle RTC in the Chelmsley Wood area of Solihull.
A taxi driver had a suspected medical episode and crashed in his silver Toyota Corolla Hybrid taxi into a road sign and onto a roundabout on Coleshill Heath Road that connects to the A452 Chester Road on Wednesday, 28 May.
Police closed several hundred meters of the road in 3 directions as investigations continued into the crash.
The private hire vehicle had a Wolverhampton taxi license plate attached to the rear of the vehicle.
A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: 'We were called by the police to reports of an RTC at the junction of Chester Road and Coleshill Heath Road, Chelmsley Wood.
'Two ambulances, a paramedic officer and a critical care car from The Air Ambulance Service responded.
'When crews arrived they found police officers administering CPR to the driver of a car, a man, who was in a critical condition following a suspected medical event at the wheel.
'Ambulance staff took over resuscitation efforts but sadly, despite the best efforts of everyone, nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead a short time later.'
West Midlands Police have been contacted for a statement.
