Deputies Relocate 10-Foot Alligator Caught Lounging on Road
ONSLOW COUNTY, N.C. — Deputies with the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office had an unusual run-in Wednesday when they encountered a massive alligator sunbathing on Old 30 Road.
Nicknamed “Pepe the Gator,” the 350- to 400-pound reptile was found loitering near the centerline, prompting a swift — and humorous — response from law enforcement. Deputies joked on Facebook that Pepe was “cited” for pretending to be a dinosaur without proper papers and obstructing traffic with intent to sunbathe.
No injuries were reported, and the nearly 10-foot-long gator was safely relocated. Deputies noted that while Pepe didn’t ride in the front seat, his pride may have taken a hit after refusing to be cuffed.
