This is the dramatic moment a home was swept away by floodwaters as severe flooding struck Myanmar.

Footage shows a house nearly fully submerged, with only its roof visible amid floodwaters in Khao Lan Phu, Kachin State, on May 31.

Moments later, the structure collapses and is carried away by the powerful current.

Reports said at least 55,117 residents were evacuated from Kachin State due to the rising levels of the Ayeyawady River.

Just days earlier, on May 26, passengers had to be rescued from a bus swept away by floodwaters in Mandalay Region.

Two coaches attempted to cross the flooded Sintewa Creek when the second vehicle was overwhelmed by the strong current, tipping over and partially submerged.

Concerned villagers from the Taungtha Township rushed to the scene to help the trapped travellers and driver.

Local media said that the bus was carrying more than 40 individuals when the incident occurred. All passengers were safely rescued, and no injuries were reported.

Myanmar and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are at the start of their annual monsoon rainy season, which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms. The rudimentary infrastructure often struggles with the deluge, leading to widespread flash floods.
