Sergeant Rescues Trapped Raccoon During Unusual Police Call
CHATHAM, Ill. — Law enforcement officers are trained to expect the unexpected—but rarely does that include wildlife rescue. That’s exactly what happened when Sergeant Jacob Bouldin of the Chatham Police Department responded to a recent call involving a trapped raccoon.
While the police academy doesn’t cover animal rescue operations, Bouldin jumped into action to assist the distressed animal. The department later shared the incident as “Operation Raccoon Rescue” and confirmed the mission was a complete success.
“When wildlife is in trouble, we will always try our best to rescue it, if we can,” the department said. The story highlights the wide-ranging responsibilities officers can face while on duty—and their commitment to serving the entire community, both human and animal.
