FARGO, N.D. — A puppy discovered alone after a hit-and-run crash earlier this week is now safe, warm and thriving in a foster home, the North Dakota Highway Patrol said Friday.

The pup, affectionately nicknamed Tom, was found by Trooper Tom Steenstrup at a crash scene where a driver struck a guardrail and fled. Steenstrup’s body-camera video shows the moment he located the frightened animal and carried him to safety.

Highway Patrol officials said the puppy is adjusting well and receiving plenty of care in Fargo while the hit-and-run investigation continues.

The agency thanked the community for the outpouring of concern and encouraged everyone to “spread a little kindness wherever you can.”
