GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A routine traffic stop on I-85 nearly ended in disaster November 4, 2025, when a driver failed to slow down and caused a chain-reaction crash that pushed a car beneath a tractor-trailer, police said.

Officers with the West Precinct Community Response Team were conducting the stop just south of the Steve Reynolds Boulevard on-ramp when traffic began merging around them. Police said a vehicle driven by Domarius Williams did not slow down and struck the rear of another car, forcing it underneath the trailer.

The impact caused the tractor-trailer to swerve into the spot where officers had been standing only seconds earlier. No officers were injured, and occupants of the vehicles sustained minor injuries.

Williams was cited for following too closely, driving with a suspended license and having an improper license plate cover.

Police said the incident highlights the dangers officers face during roadside encounters and the need for drivers to slow down near emergency lights.
