ALPINE COUNTY, Calif. — A driver’s attempt to ford the Carson River turned into a high-stakes rescue after their vehicle became stranded in the swift, cold current.

According to the California Highway Patrol’s South Lake Tahoe office, the incident involved two off-road enthusiasts who underestimated the river's force. Fortunately, CHP’s Office of Air Operations (OAO) responded swiftly, dispatching helicopter H20 to perform a hoist rescue.

Both the driver and passenger were safely airlifted from the river without injury. CHP praised the skill and coordination of its OAO officers for bringing the dangerous situation to a safe conclusion.
