Sherwood Officers and Firefighters Rescue Child With Autism From Roof
SHERWOOD, Ore. — Sherwood Police officers and firefighters from Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue worked together to rescue a young child with autism who was spotted running on the roof of a home after multiple 911 calls on Sunday.
When officers arrived, they found the child in a dangerous position while his grandmother, unable to climb onto the roof, tried to keep him safe. Officers climbed up, held onto the child, and kept him calm until firefighters arrived to assist with the safe rescue.
The department shared the story — with the family’s permission — to raise awareness about autism and the unpredictable behaviors children may display when overwhelmed or curious. Officials emphasized the importance of patience, calm communication, and community understanding when interacting with individuals on the autism spectrum.
