Workers trapped as landslide crashes into mine during floods in Indonesia
This is the terrifying moment several workers were trapped as a landslide crashed into a mine in Indonesia.
Seven miners were stranded inside a tunnel at the Grasberg Block Cave underground mine in Mimika Regency, Central Papua Province.
CCTV footage shows the deluge of mud violently surging through the entrance, knocking out the surveillance camera on the evening of September 8.
The disaster forced the labourers to flee further inside the passageway to reach safety.
PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) Vice President of Corporate Communications, Katri Krisnati, said: 'The landslide has blocked access to certain areas of the mine, limiting evacuation routes for seven workers.'
Authorities confirmed that they had already identified the location of the trapped workers and assured that they were safe.
They are also carrying out access clearance efforts to support a safe and rapid evacuation, providing essentials for the affected workers.
Local media reported that six individuals had died from the severe flooding across the country.
On Wednesday, vehicles became stranded in floodwaters in Denpasar, Bali, with homes also submerged in some areas.
Earlier in the day, a three-storey home collapsed along the banks of the Badung River. At least three residents, a mother and her children, were reported missing following the incident.
In another part of the island, a woman was swept away by strong currents after falling from her motorcycle while attempting to cross a flooded road with her husband in Jembrana Regency.
In nearby Negara City, a hotel was inundated, forcing guests to evacuate to safer ground.
Reports said the intense downpour began on Tuesday morning, lashing the island and triggering floods in several villages across the region.
