US: Grappler Device Brings DUI Suspect To Controlled Stop
United States - October 04, 2025 In the early hours of October 4, 2025, Douglas County Deputies assisted the Aurora Police Department in a high-risk DUI pursuit along E-470 near Gartrell Road. The pursuit began at approximately 4:22 a.m. as a suspected impaired driver headed westbound. Deputies quickly set up two sets of stop sticks to safely halt the vehicle, but the suspect continued driving recklessly. A Douglas County patrol vehicle equipped with the Grappler device joined the chase. Deputies skillfully positioned themselves behind and then in front of the suspect vehicle. The car struck concrete barriers multiple times before the Grappler was successfully deployed just west of South Quebec Street, bringing the vehicle to an immediate and controlled stop. The suspect complied with officers and was taken into custody by Aurora Police without incident. Sheriff Weekly praised the coordinated response, saying, “I am proud of the seamless coordination between our deputies and our partners at APD. This incident highlights the power of innovative tools like the Grappler. By effectively deploying cutting-edge technology, we’re able to bring dangerous situations to a safe conclusion while minimizing risk to the public. Douglas County remains committed to staying at the forefront of law enforcement tactics that enhance safety and effectiveness in the field.”
