This is the shocking moment raging currents knocked down a home during severe flooding in Indonesia.

Footage shows surging torrents crashing into the foundations of the two-storey residence in Solok Regency, West Sumatra, on November 27.

The deluge ate away at the base of the structure until the weakened house crumpled into the churning floodwaters.

The region's disaster response office said at least nine have died in the floods in West Sumatra.

Ilham Wahab, spokesman for the West Sumatra Regional Disaster Management Agency, said on Thursday afternoon: 'Nine people died, and the search is still ongoing because there are still reports of missing people.

'Thirteen regencies and cities were affected by the disaster. The worst-hit were Padang City, Agam, and West Pasaman.'

Monsoon donwpours have been pounding the island of Sumatra over the past week, triggering landslides and flash floods that submerged thousands of homes.

In West Sumatra, more than 3,300 houses were submerged and some 12,000 residents were evacuated to government shelters.

Authorities said at least 69 people have died and 59 were missing as rescue efforts continue.

Indonesia and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are in their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.
