Torrential rain triggered flash floods in Indonesia on Sunday (February 13) that damaged dozens of houses in West Sumatra.

Footage filmed in the village of Lundar in Pasaman Regency showed alarmed locals wading through the floodwaters and several severely damaged homes.

Footage filmed in the village of Lundar on Sunday (13 February) afternoon shows flash floods making local shock and hysterical.

In some bridges, wood and stone materials block the flow of rivers, causing floods to overflow into roads and settlements.

Local resident Pramu Karno said the flood came suddenly after it had rained in the area for more than an hour.

"Previously there was heavy rain, then at around 05.30 p.m a lot of wood and stones washed away in the river until the water overflowed into the house," Karno said.

Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Pasaman Regency, Alim Bazar, said that temporary data on 50 houses were damaged by the flood.

"No casualties. As many as 50 houses were affected by the flood, with the worst condition being around 20 units," Bazar added.

Additional footage shows heavy equipment arriving at the location to open an access road that was covered with flash flood material.

On Sunday night the water had gradually receded and left mud all over the affected area.

Apart from heavy rains, flash floods are also suspected to have occurred due to illegal logging in the upstream area.
