A tornado formed over a rice field and tore the roof from a home as a storm swept through the Philippines.

Footage shows a mist-like funnel gaining size and swirling across the farmlands while light rain fell in Zamboanga del Sur on November 25.

The vortex then drifted toward a nearby house and ripped off a large section of its metal roof.

Residents watching from across the field were stunned as debris was blown across the road.

Local Johainie Arcenal Bringquez said: 'I thought it was going to dissolve when it reached the house. We did not expect it to be that strong.'

The twister briefly weakened after striking the building but stayed intact long enough to cross the road.

The smaller, dust-devil like remnant then whipped around parked trucks before eventually fading.

The incident happened as the region was being hit by Typhoon Koto, locally named Verbena.

The storm made seven landfalls across the country before moving into the South China Sea on a track toward Vietnam.
