A Libyan military chief was among eight people killed when a private jet crashed in Turkey.

Army Chief of Staff Mohammed Ali Ahmed al-Haddad was on board the Dassault Falcon 50 when it went down near Ankara on Tuesday.

The other victims included four senior Libyan military officials and three crew members.

Footage shows buildings and their surroundings suddenly illuminated, seemingly from the crash.

An incident report from the Aviation Safety Network stated: 'A Falcon 50 business jet, 9H-DFS, crashed almost 30 minutes after takeoff from Ankara, Turkiye.

'The flight took off from Ankara Esenboga Airport at 20:17, bound for Tripoli. A request for an emergency landing after electrical issues was received from the aircraft from near Haymana; however, contact with the aircraft could not be re-established afterward.

'There are eight passengers on board, including the Chief of Staff of the Libyan Armed Forces, General Mohammed Ali Ahmed Al-Haddad.

'The aircraft reportedly crashed on Selamalmaz Hill, two kilometers south of Haymana Kesikkavak Village.'

Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said the jet's black box had been recovered and is now being examined by authorities.
