A disturbing footage has emerged of a man whipping his 'possessed' wife with a leather belt and kicking her in the public to 'help rid her of the evil spirit'. The incident took place on March 7 in Barmer district in north west India’s Rajasthan state.

The man identified as Ramesh Bheel was seen following a woman with a belt in his hand. The helpless woman, identified as Keli Devi, 27, was seen frantically running barefoot on the dusty terrains of Pachpadra village. The husband made her walk 3.5km till the end of the village as he continued lashing her with belt and resorted to intermittent beating.

Several people had gathered to witness the heinous act in silence. Though not seen in the video, noises of people on bike were also heard.

According to eyewitnesses, the woman was ordered belt and boot lashing by a tantric, who was identified as Aanada Ram Bheel. He diagnosed that the victim was 'possessed'. The exorcist ordered the husband to hit the woman and take her to the end of the village in order to redeem her of the spirits.


Officials have arrested the exorcist under sections of The Rajasthan Prevention of Witch Hunting Act.
