Moment crowded roof collapses injuring 30 people in Indian election rally

Over 30 people were injured when a roof collapsed during an election rally in South India on March 27.

Police said more than 20 persons were standing on the roof of a building when it collapsed under their weight.

Besides those on the wall, several people standing on the road below also suffered injuries.

The mishap occurred during a political rally organised by YSR Congress party (YSRCP) at Mandapeta town in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh on March 27.

A huge crowded had gathered to welcome YSRCP president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy to the town.

His supporters had packed the streets and climbed the roofs of buildings to get a glimpse of him.

700 million voters are set to vote in India to elect the next government in the world's largest democratic exercise.
