A man escaped death after he came under an express train in western India. The incident took place on Apr 20 while an express train was leaving Vapi Railway station, located in Gujarat state.

Visual of the dramatic event showed a group of men shouting instructions to a man who could be seen lying on the tracks as the train sped through.

The men urged the man to lay as still as possible and allow the train to pass through.

While one man suggested the chains be pulled, in a bid to stop the train, others demanded the train move as usual, so they could rescue the man.

Once the train left the platform, the man stood up with help from others. Though he looked shaken, he did not suffer any major injuries.

While helping him move, a rescuer also handed the man his mobile phone, which had fallen on the tracks.

Though it is not clear how the man ended up there, is is believed he decided to lay down after realising the train had come too close for him to climb on to the platform.
